LPG is safe when it is handled with care at every step: filling, storage, transport and use. This page covers how we run our plant, and how you can keep your home safe.

Health, safety and environment
Imperial Gases protects the health and safety of its people, its customers and its neighbours, and handles LPG with care for the environment. In practice, that means:
- Every cylinder passes weight, leak and seal checks before it leaves the plant.
- Everyone who handles LPG is trained first, and re-trained on a fixed schedule.
- Equipment is inspected and maintained before problems appear, not after.
- Incidents and near-misses are reported, investigated and acted on.

Three programmes, running continuously
Filling quality controls
Calibrated scales on every filling head, check-weighing before dispatch, leak detection on every cylinder, tamper-evident sealing, and withdrawal of any shell that fails visual inspection.
Fire drill programme
Scheduled fire and leak-response drills involving every shift, with equipment checks and timed response targets. Lessons from each drill feed back into procedures.
Trained teams
Structured safe-handling training for plant operators, drivers and distributor staff, because the chain is only as safe as its last pair of hands.

LPG safety in your home
Storing your cylinder
- Keep the cylinder upright, on a firm level surface, in a ventilated space.
- Never store it in a basement, stairwell or enclosed cupboard. LPG is heavier than air and pools low.
- Keep it away from heat sources, direct sun and electrical switches.
- Close the valve whenever the stove is not in use.
If you smell gas
- Do not switch anything on or off: no lights, no fans, no phones in the room.
- Extinguish open flames, close the cylinder valve.
- Open doors and windows wide and leave the room.
- Call the emergency line from outside, and do not return until the area is cleared.
Checking your cylinder
- Accept only cylinders with an intact Imperial tamper seal.
- Check the hose and regulator monthly; replace cracked hoses immediately.
- Test suspected leaks with soapy water, never with a match.
